Opening of Asatru Temple in Iceland Delayed to Early 2018

The opening of the Asatru Temple in Reykjavik, Iceland has been pushed back to early 2018.

Planning began in 2015 with several locations considered. Öskjuhlíð Hill (near Reykjavik) was ultimately selected and construction of the first main Hof began in 2016.  Early plans had the temple opening mid-2017 (to align with the Summer Solstice) but this has been pushed back at least 6 months due to construction challenges at the site.

When completed, the temple will be more than 12,000 square ft. in size and accommodate 350 people.

The temple was financed by the Icelandic Ásatrú society and has been overseen by High Chieftan Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and former Reykjavik mayor Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir.
